Syringe Assembly

The task was to build a semi-automatic filling machine
to fill plastic syringe barrels, ink jet code the barrel with
a lot code and expiration date and place the plunger rod
down to the product level in the barrel while venting
entrapped air. The product was an extremely thick gel
(500,000 cps) and could not be pumped with
conventional style positive displacement pumps.

We ended up integrating a specially designed positive
displacement metering pump that provided the high
volumetric accuracy that was of critical concern to the
customer. We successfully filled the required 60 grams
of high viscosity gel at speeds over 25/syringe barrels
per minute, with an accuracy better than the required
+1 percent of fill.
